Pawn Shop Annah

Pawn Shop Annah

It was early in the day
When I walked into the store
Merchandise was everywhere
A man sat behind the cage bars
So I just moseyed forward
My hand deep inside my jeans
I was holding hard onto
A little piece of my past

The man looked up
And watched me as I approached
He looked me over good
And he smiled his slow grin
Crooked shifty and sly
Because he knew
I needed to make a deal

I’m Pawn Shop Annah
But you shouldn’t judge me
‘Cause I’m just doing
What comes natural to me
Handing over bits and pieces
Of my heart and soul

I showed him what
I was hiding in my pocket
The shine from a ring
That I hadn’t worn in such
A long – long time
But memories came flooding back
To fill my eyes with unshed tears

He could tell he had me
And meanly cut the price
Just to see if I’d beg
To get more cash
So I could get what I needed
Even though I wanted out of his place
I held my head high and didn’t give in

I’m Pawn Shop Annah
But you shouldn’t judge me
‘Cause I’m just doing
What comes natural to me
Handing over bits and pieces
Of my heart and soul

… Selling bits and pieces
Of my poor heart and soul … A little bit at a time …

Note*  I have changed the title to Annah as I have a family member by the other name but there was no relation to my song lyrics.  FYI *
