Deep Frozen Mussels

I have some deep frozen mussels in my freezer. They have been there for sixteen months. Are they still good to eat? Anyone? Will I become ill if I cook and eat them? Or, are they Okay?

  1. One way you could find out is to defrost and cook them, and then give some to a neighbor. Take along a fork and pop a bite into the first opened mouth, saying something about how delicious it is. Watch their response closely. If there are no alarming symptoms pretty soon thereafter, you should be good to go. Be sure to wear plastic gloves and get rid of the shells from your kitchen, “just in case”!
