Boiling Pot

Boiling Pot, originally uploaded by Theresa111.

The next time you are in your kitchen and you are ready to cook something in a hurry, remember this little tip. Never watch a pot of water and wait for it to boil. It takes twice the time. No joke.

Tip: Fill pot, cover, adjust heat and do something else in the meantime. Before you know it, the lid is slowly puffing up and your water is ready for whatever you are going to cook.

Are you sure that’s not a late April Fool’s joke? Does putting the lid on make it boil faster?

  • Theresa111

Yes, actually it does. Placing a lid on the top of the pan traps the steam and the molecules has less space. the enclosed are rises the temperature, thus making the water boil faster. Adding salt also quickens the boil.

By using a lid and doing something else, creates a mind set of, out of sight out of mind. The water boils faster this way rather standing over an uncovered pot … just waiting for the bubbles to appear.

ooooh…good tip! I feel like I spend half my life waiting for water to boil.

Watched pot never boils — it’s a true saying 🙂

I happen to like standing over an uncovered pot waiting for the bubbles to appear. Sometimes I will try to predict where the next bubble comes from or try to spot a pattern forming, or watch the bubbles dancing under the billowing plumes of steam engulfing my head.
And to think I would be missing this fascinating action if I hid it all beneath the lid and just walked away? 🙂

That’s as bad as when I have a bowl of popcorn and must decide which pieces I should eat first. It’s a game I used to play with myself from the time I was fourteen.
